Spreading Oyster Love

A year ago Katie Ferrell of the James River Association reached out to learn more about how we were cleaning our coastal waters. Today, she has secured grant funding, grown 500 oysters in the James River and implemented educational programming where students are measuring oysters, water filtration and water quality!  The oysters are filtering ~2,800 gallons of water per day which not only helps the James River, but also the Chesapeake Bay.  Great job Katie, keep up the great work!                 Read More...

HB Oil Spill

On Saturday, October 2, 2021 hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil spilled into the Pacific Ocean due to a pipeline leak at an offshore oil rig.  The Surfrider Foundation is in close contact with the agencies that are trying to minimize the damage to coastal ecosystems.  Currently, the public are urged to not actively participate in the clean up as the oil is highly toxic.  In this situation we can potentially cause more harm than good to affected wildlife.  Those in the Huntington Beach & Newport area can help by taking photos of the impact as well as reporting... A Couple Runners Up @ Belmar PRO

Clam Jam POSTPONED for 9/11 & 9/12

The 15th Annual Jetty Clam Jam will NOT run on September 11th or 12th.  Year in and year out it is such a tough decision, especially when there is swell in the water, but Hurricane Larry just isn't producing the right ingredients for Long Beach Island.  The integrity of the Clam Jam has been upheld due to close-outs and South wind, so we will reconvene next week and see what is in store for September 18th & 19th!  We appreciate your patience and schedule juggling!   Read More...

A Pleasant Surprise

Wow, it has been 11 years since Kyle Pahlow and Nick Zegel dropped A Pleasant Surprise, a feature length east coast surf film that offers an honest look at the talents of a select group of surfers.  The boys finally have it all ready to premiere on the world wide web where it will now live on in its entirety.  We remember sitting in the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park (NJ) back in 2008 anticipating some waves from Jetty Captain Randy Townsend!  A Pleasant Surprise was a part of the New York Surf Film Festival and it is always fun to think back,... Waves of the Future
