HB Oil Spill

On Saturday, October 2, 2021 hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil spilled into the Pacific Ocean due to a pipeline leak at an offshore oil rig.  The Surfrider Foundation is in close contact with the agencies that are trying to minimize the damage to coastal ecosystems.  Currently, the public are urged to not actively participate in the clean up as the oil is highly toxic.  In this situation we can potentially cause more harm than good to affected wildlife.  Those in the Huntington Beach & Newport area can help by taking photos of the impact as well as reporting... A Couple Runners Up @ Belmar PRO

Hurricane Larry produced great conditions for the Belmar PRO this year!  We had two ambassadors come oh so close to winning titles.  Mia Gallagher finished 2nd in the Playa Bowls Women's Final and Logan Hayes finished 2nd in the FINS Men's Open Final.  What a great four days on the beach in Central Jersey!    Read More...

Weber & Machotka hoist the Clam!

Photography courtesy of Jim Givas The waves weren't perfect on Saturday, September 18th, but there sure were plenty of them, and the best surfers rose to the occasion at the 15th Annual Clam Jam!  Pete Machotka & Royce Weber took out Jeff Pennella & Conor Willem in a close final heat (13.07 - 11.7).  We score each surfer's highest wave and add them together.  This year, we introduced a beta version of our new digital scoring system so surfers and fans can see live scoring as well as the bracket - check out the results here.  Congrats to Royce, who... Clam Jam POSTPONED for 9/11 & 9/12

The 15th Annual Jetty Clam Jam will NOT run on September 11th or 12th.  Year in and year out it is such a tough decision, especially when there is swell in the water, but Hurricane Larry just isn't producing the right ingredients for Long Beach Island.  The integrity of the Clam Jam has been upheld due to close-outs and South wind, so we will reconvene next week and see what is in store for September 18th & 19th!  We appreciate your patience and schedule juggling!   Read More...

Pat's Paddle-out

Photo (Above) by Jack Reynolds This past weekend the Harrington family held a massive paddle-out to remember Patrick "P-Money" Harrington.  The turn out was overwhelming and awesome.  Hundreds of friends and family came together at 15th Street in Ship Bottom, NJ, where Pat used to lifeguard.  People shouted great things in remembrance of Pat's best qualities from the outskirts of the traditional ring.  "I thought I was special, but Pat treated everyone that way"!  "Pat hated all Philadelphia fans...but we forgave him because we're Irish"!  "We should all live a little bit more like Pat".  And, Pat sent in some swell on a... Waves of the Future

Above: Photo courtesy of Ryan Mack It's pretty exciting to have a state of the art wave pool right here in our home state of New Jersey.  Jetty Ambassador Randy Townsend recently cashed in a ticket via Skudin Surf @ American Dream as a crew of East Coast all stars hit the pool.  We'd say that the Perect Swell technology made for a pretty damn good Saturday night in East Rutherford! Clam Jam Delayed Again...

We're postponing the 14th Annual Jetty Clam Jam once again this weekend - it will not run on September 19th or 20th.  We hope you all scored some waves this past week, we were definitely out of the office quite a bit!  We will continue tracking the tropics while remembering that we love the waves that these storms produce, but they can also wreck homes, entire regions and lives.
