Our 5th Annual Shellabration proved that oyster farmers and lovers alike will brave any conditions! We celebrated the local oyster on Saturday, October 7th with two goals in mind: educating the public on the importance of the eastern oyster and raising funds for our LBT Oyster Recycling Program. Morning rain and strong winds aside, your participation at this event supported (8) local oyster farms - the farmers shucked over 7,000 oysters! All of the shell, (7) bushels in total, was recycled and added to this season's nearly (40) tons of collected/recycled shell. We capped off the event with a shucking contest which was won by Barnegat Oyster Collective's Scott Lennox. The event raised in excess of $26,000, and after expenses, the profits will be passed on to Long Beach Township to continue to build our collaborative program as well as support other restoration and clean water initiatives!
