The Rare Air About Us

We surfers have a certain air about us, rarely stopping at any iteration of a Beaches Closed sign.  Mother Ocean is often at her best during times of despair, and certainly in the wake of natural disasters.  The COVID-19 pandemic is a bit different though.  Beaches are closing to prevent gatherings, but paddling out seems like the best option during these times.  Here is Jetty Ambassador Gabriel Canals before Puerto Rico announced that nobody should leave their house.  #GetOutside #DYOL #DrawYourOwnLine #TheJettyLife   Read More...

New Horizons

Salva Rincon!

Above: Gaby ripping courtesy of Spike Chambers Jetty Ambassador  Gaby Canals isn't thrilled about the proposed mega hotel and casino haunting Rincon.  This petition does a nice job explaining why one of our favorite surf destinations wants to choose a different path for growth.  Just up the road, Puerto Rico's first World Surfing Reserve has been established from Crashboat Beach to Surfers Beach in Aguadilla thanks to the work of the Save the Waves Coalition!  Steps in the right direction to preserve the natural beauty and waves on our southerly neighbor! The Life of Riley: Part IV

Above: Gaby enjoys a thinned out lineup due to the size (Photo: Bobby Bechtel) From the sub-sea level stuff that Jersey had going on, to the massive Caribbean, Winter Storm Riley wasn't just a one-time event as it produced a week of waves.  While plenty of schools and businesses closed on the East Coast, and PR still recovering from Hurricane Maria, Jetty Ambassadors  Gaby Canals and Sam Seeland had no complaints. Solo Sets

Above: Jetty Ambassador Chris Mansor by Randy Dizon I can't believe we're the only ones out here!  When you murmur those words, you know you're enjoying some true solitude and a connection with nature that is hard to explain.  In these crowded days, with less and less secret spots, it's nice to know that those solo sessions (or just you and a couple of buds) are still within reach!   Gaby Canals taking a break from the rebuilding in PR Ben Wingate slashing into 2018 Read More...

Powering Through

Jetty Ambassador Gaby Canals has been leading the charge to get his home region in Puerto Rico back in order.  We know that rebuilding takes time, and are working to send more aid to the Caribbean.  The latest word from Gaby is the good news that their power is back on!  One of the many lessons that we learned after Sandy dealt with restoring a sense of normalcy, and as you can see, Mondongo Canals is certainly using surfing as a tool to do so!      Read More...
