"Escape From Los Angeles" by AFI

Ahhh, another song about good ole Los Angeles!  This time courtesy of 30-year vets AFI, they leave it up to us to decipher all that lures us to LA and on the other hand what fuels our planned escape.  More than just the fans of A Fire Inside are excited to hear their first new music in a couple of years which serves as a precursor to their 11th studio album to be released sometime in 2021!   Read More...

"The Overthrow" by Will Hoge

Will Hoge released his 11th studio album this past June, Tiny Little Movies.  We sure are glad that Hoge made a full recovery from his 2008 motorcycle accident.  Tiny Little Movies has a little bit of slow and a little bit of fast, but we're featuring the latter in The Overthrow.  Decode the lyrics as you wish, but let's just all agree that we have to be good to one another (and the environment) as a permanent step toward making our world beautiful.    Read More...

"Dirty" by grandson

We featured grandson back in June on the collaborative effort that was Zen.  After a few EP's, Jordan Benjamin's Death of an Optimist full-length came to us last month via Fueled By Ramen.  Benjamin's honest lyrics and straight forward approach to discussing current events is on point throughout.  To answer his question in Dirty, we're not afraid!  From design to screen printing to everyday business, we love getting our hands dirty - we have enough love in our hearts! "The Divine Chord" by The Avalanches feat. MGMT & Johnny Marr

The Avalanches are technically only two members, but man there are some expansive sounds on their latest album We Will Always Love You.  Whether it is Robbie and Tony playing instruments, or digging in the crates for samples, or one of the many featured artists that they have pulled in, the space-oriented 25 song journey will help you escape!  We thought that The Divine Chord sounded pretty Christmas'y too, so the timing couldn't be better for this latest release - Happy Holidays! "Long in the Tooth" by The Budos Band

We could have selected any song off of Long in the Tooth, the 6th release by The Budos Band, but we'll roll with the title track!  You'll hear plenty from all 8 members of this Staten Island-based instrumental band throughout the album.  Every sound from every instrument comes together seamlessly to paint a beautiful background for whatever you want to imagine.  Let this album (and really all of their albums) be the soundtrack to your life...enjoy!      Read More...

"Knife Fight" by Painted Shield

This week we're featuring more collaborative music a la Painted Shield!  This union was a bit out of the box for Mason Jennings, Stone Gossard, Matt Chamberlain & Brittany Davis, but that's what makes it so great.  Slightly after Hurricane Sandy Gossard popped up on the cover of Rolling Stone wearing what was one of our first flannels!  We should probably send him some new gear as everything has come such a long way since 2012, and just like that time period we again find ourselves using positivity and benevolence to get through tragic times.  Painted Shield actually started to come together... "SPARK UP!" by Ball Park Music

If this one doesn't get you out of that funk you're in, then we're not sure what will?!  SPARK UP! is Ball Park Music's first single from their hopefully-coming-soon Mostly Sunny.  This is a great anthem for the majority who are looking to snap out of 2020...spark up people! Read More...

"Tangerine" by Steady Holiday

The multi-talented Dre Babinski just dropped another single from her upcoming album Take the Corners Gently.  Tangerine is about mental illness, so peel back the layers and keep the stress in check as 2020 comes to an end.  We think Steady Holiday is Bablinski's best work, but her work as a touring artist, violinist and actress should be noted as well! "Baby Got Work" by Potatohead People & De La Sould feat. Posdnous & Kapok

This week we're featuring Baby Got Work, the second single off of Potatohead People's Mellow Fantasy.  The Vancouver production duo have tapped De La Soul's Posdnous who always delivers a message in classic Hip Hop fashion.  He is also joined by Canadian recording artist Kapok to round out the jazzy track.  We all have some work to do, get to it! "It Ain't Easy" by Delta Spirit

Delta Spirit is back off of a six year hiatus with a brand new album, What Is There.  Lead man Matthew Logan Vasquez has been up front about the band's long break and its positive affect on keeping their friendship true.  On the sonic side, the pause definitely worked as we had trouble choosing a song to feature from the new album which dropped last month.  Enjoy It Ain't Easy, but do your due diligence on the full listen through! "Material Boy" by Sir Sly

For the second consecutive week we have a band stepping somewhat outside of their comfort zone with a new release.  Sir Sly isn't really known for putting out slightly positive songs, but Material Boy certainly evokes some happy feelings for us listeners.  This one is sort of straight out of lead singer Landon Jacobs' diary, so enjoy the beautiful marriage of deep lyrics and that undeniable synth line. "Trouble's Coming" by Royal Blood

From the sound of Royal Blood's latest single it seems that the pandemic-induced delay of their 3rd album will be well worth the wait.  You might think that you hear a full band strumming and knocking on a bunch of instruments, a nod to the talent of this duo who are Mike Kerr & Ben Thatcher!  Trouble's Coming is more likely to draw you to the dance floor compared to most of their past work, so we'll see if that direction is also a theme when the album makes its way to us next Spring.   Read More...

"survivin'" by Bastille

Survivin'...that's what most of us are focused on right now!  This year has thrown new and devastatingly tough hurdles at many, so let's make sure to take care of each other.  Bastille has dropped another great single, one that not only uplifts, but also touches on the important topics of anxiety and mental health.  Enjoy! "Something For Me" by The Ones You Forgot

We're changing gears this week and bringing things back to our home Jersey turf with The Ones You Forgot!  Coincidentally, we just met Jenna Bruno, the quintet's lead singer, and we were pleasantly introduced to the bands full-of-life songs.  Despite the smackdown that COVID put on the entire music industry, these guys were able to sneak out a new single in July...check out Something For Me!   Read More...

"The Colour of Love" by Smashing Pumpkins

The Smashing Pumpkins have released two new tracks as they ready their next release.  Cyr & The Colour of Love both stray away from traditional Pumpkins' sound and more toward synth-pop.  It will be interesting to hear over 20 new songs that Billy Corgan calls pretty different when they drop their first album with Sumerian Records.     Read More...

"Earthquake Weather" by Dirty Heads

The Dirty Heads just released another single leading up to their next release California Island (March '21).  Earthquake Weather is another masterful mixture of Hip-Hop, Reggae and Rock.  After releasing Bum Bum earlier, we now have two solid tracks that have us looking forward to their 8th studio album early next year! "Dan n' Shaniqua" by Matt Mays

Matt Mays just dropped Dog City, an entire album written from the perspective of a rescue dog!  What a cool concept, and the album also came together during isolation via Mays' own home studio as well as contributions from other band mates.  Check out the first single Dan n' Shaniqua!     Read More...

"No Skips" by Oddisee feat. Ralph Real

Plenty of musicians could write and produce an entire album during a 2-week quarantine, but not with the quality of Odd Cure.  Oddisee had just returned from overseas to his Brooklyn studio before being locked down, and he obviously used the time wisely with his usual sharp lyrics and live instrumentation which was recorded remotely by his band members.  Check out No Skips, one of six great new songs from Amir Mohamed el Khalifa, all of which are cleverly meshed with skits of real phone calls to friends and family during the early parts of quarantine. "Good Shit Happens" by Michael Franti & Spearhead

This week we're sharing the good vibes of Michael Franti & Spearhead!  The new album title, Work Hard & Be Nice, says it all as that is sort of what we all need to do during these divided times.  Hey, bad shit happens, but good shit happens too, so let's focus on the latter and be better humans! "Lifeguard" by Nahko And Medicine for the People

Uplifting music, that is what Nahko And Medicine for the People bring to the table!  The new album, Take Your Power Back, dropped in May, but the impact of the 18 worldly tracks will live on forever.  On Lifeguard, Nahko Bear asks the important question that all of us should answer ~ How much do we really need?   Read More...
