‘Surfing’

Check out some great shots by Matthew Higgins from an April day of surf on Long Beach Island, NJ. We haven’t had great surf this Winter and the drought has continued thus far through Spring. Believe us that when a day of surf like last Tuesday swings through, and the wind stays off of it, we all leave our desks! Many of these shots feature Jetty Team Rider Randy Townsend as well as a few of the other local boys killing it!

Jetty Team Rider Sam Seeland just shipped us over a couple of shots from Bayhead, NJ, one of his favorite breaks when the wind/swell direction is right. Sam has been yearning for some Jersey Spring Swell like these 2011 photos show. The first photo is courtesy of Dave Nilsen while the second was shot by Mike Inicitti. Sam also just let us know that he has a rare bone disease and plans to work in a field where he can inspire others to overcome similar adversities. Seeland says he might be the only surfer in the world who paddles without collar bones! Good stuff Sam, we love the positive path you’re on!

Huge congrats to Jetty Team Rider Tyler Vaughan who recently passed the second section on the NJ State Certification Process for court interpreting! Tyler speaks Spanish like you wouldn’t believe and we know he is so stoked to be working in a profession where he can still travel and surf! Props to another dude living The Jetty Life and following his passions! Oh yeah, like we mentioned, he still finds time to surf evidenced here in this recent shot by Ryan Struck!

Jetty Team Rider Selena Moberly won the Open Womens Triple Crown Nosara on April 7th! The 3rd and final round at Playa Guiones, Costa Rica pitted contestants against challenging/poor conditions, but Selena was able to battle through en route to victory. Huge congrats to Miss Moberly who left the Imperial crates almost immediately to head to Florida for the NSSA East Coast Championships!

Jetty Team Rider Spencer Bridges recently returned from a trip to Costa Rica. Seriously, do any of our Team Riders not jet set to Costa during the Winter?! Well, we’ve been there and just set our 2012 Surf Team Trip so we understand the decision to get there as much as possible! Here’s a surf shot from Spencer’s trip as well as another that grants some serenity…

We supported a first-time, local contest last weekend called the LBI Winter Warriors. This contest was put together by Conor Willem and supported by local surf shops and businesses on Long Beach Island, NJ. After the entire month-long waiting period, the contest finally went down! The stats were 3 broken boards, 0 injuries, 100 beat downs & some sick barrels! In the end, Jetty Team Rider Randy Townsend was victorious and two of our other team riders finished in the Top 10 (Pete Machotka – 6th, Brian Bowker – 7th). You can check the full Top 10 results here. Great job by all and it’s refreshing to see others working hard to do good things ~ thank you Conor!

Jetty Team Rider Jamie DeWitt just checked in with a couple of recent photos by Jess Swenson. Jamie seems to be settled down in FL after her move from the Outer Banks, NC. Expect to see DeWitt back on the contest circuit very soon!
